Through a creative collective and poetry evening, they’ve created a safe space and platform for all individuals of all experiences within poetry
Who
are House of Rhymes?
Think of a stereotypical poet. Now remove that stereotype from your brain because House of Rhymes are all about breaking away from the stereotypes of poetry and creating a collective which is welcome to any individual of any experience. Through both their online platform and poetry evenings, House of Rhymes has become an amazing space and community for creatives. Let’s hear from co-founders Sam and Hayley all about why House of Rhymes was created, how they’ve adapted over this year, and what to look out from them in the future!
Why
was House of Rhymes created?
Sam and Hayley: “House of Rhymes was created due to the lack of online poetry and creative platforms. We noticed how quiet poetry voices were on social media (despite the fact it’s upcoming) so we decided to try and change that. We wanted to create a unique live event where poetry readings weren’t taken too seriously. I think people get an idea when you introduce yourself as a poet and we wanted to prove the stereotype wrong. We created House of Rhymes not only to produce a safe space and platform for creatives but to keep our community growing, offer opportunities, and to welcome any individual of any experience within poetry.”

How
has House of Rhymes adapted this year?
Sam and Hayley: “House of Rhymes has adapted in many ways during this period. The company is more or less 70% online (30% being the live events) so we moulded pretty quick. We created e-zines, ran ‘Residency Rooms’ which consisted of supporting 6 different artists over 6 consistent weeks with their creativity and hosted an online live poetry event for Cancer Research UK in collaboration with Sunflower Skills Club which raised over £150 within one hour. Over these past 8 months, we’ve pushed being active on our social media as much as possible, trying to gain as many connections with creatives, riding through it together, as we’re all individually struggling. You’re not alone at House of Rhymes.”
What
should we look out for from House of Rhymes in the future?
Sam and Hayley: “You should be looking out for our creativity to branch out, dipping into multiple mediums and topics. We’re not just a poetry event, we are a creative collective for all individuals of all experiences. We aim for all our events to remain intimate, however, we are looking to expand in other areas which may mean larger audiences and bigger opportunities. We have big dreams for our company and the creatives who work with us, we have many goals to reach, consistently adapting and forever remaining / creating strong and long lasting relationships.”
