Tamara de Lempicka’s individual and genuine nature inspired illustrator Dada to embrace her own craft

Dada is that gal (literally @thatgaldada on Instagram). Her illustrations are feel-good and vibrant, and her figures are so cute you’ll want to become one of Dada’s gals.
However, not only did Dada imagine what Tamara de Lempicka, an inspirational Art Deco painter, would look like if she was a 21st century gal, Dada was inspired by Tamara’s individual and genuine nature to embrace her own craft. Read on to find out more about these two inspirational artists.
Please can you tell us a bit about your illustration of Tamara de Lempicka?
I tried to channel her as one of my gals that I'd always create in my head. I thought to myself, if she was a part of my world of gals in this century now, how would she actually look like? I depicted it to be very sensual goddess-like yet with a touch of DADA, so I played a lot with symbolism like her posture and posing, accessories, fruits, and the 'Sex Is Art' book on the table but also with a vibrant colour palette!

How does Tamara inspire you in your work and life?
She inspired me to always be genuine and embrace my craft and how I am as a women! She has always painted endless portraits of modern women, and not only that... she lived like one herself, especially paving her journey in a society and time that was still considered very conservative.
Do you have a favourite work by de Lempicka?
The painting of Adam & Eve! I love 'love' so, I liked how she was very raw, having to embrace nudes as a normality even when they're genre-ed as religious painting.

Tamara de Lempicka once said: “My goal was never to copy, but to create a new style.” Do you relate to that when you’re creating your own work?
Yes, very much! I think we have to inspire each other beyond just 'copying' works and others. Because I feel at the end of the day, it's also about your creative process and your journey. I think when you have a distinct style and it shows, it marks yourselves on the map. Which is good, it gives you a sort of identity.
